The Walpole Island First Nation Council said one of its former members passed away over the weekend.
Councillor Roger Williams died on February 21, 2026, at the age of 77.
According to the statement from the council, Williams was a committed servant to the community.
"During his time on Council, he worked thoughtfully and respectfully, always mindful of the responsibility entrusted to him," read the statement from Walpole Island First Nation Chief and Council. "He believed in listening first speaking with purpose, and acting in the best interest of our Nation."
Williams was also known for his involvement in the local sports community.
The chief and council sent condolonces to all his family and loved ones, asking that the community carry forward the "spirit of service and unity that he demonstrated throughout his life."
A celebration of life will be held at the Walpole Island Sports Complex on Thursday. His obituary can be found here.
