Donations continue to add up for Coldest Night of the Year

River City Vineyard (RCV) has reached its fundraising goal of $35,000 as part of the upcoming Coldest Night of the Year initiative.

The winter-based fundraiser supports charitable groups while raising awareness of the cold conditions people face when they are without a home. As such, participants will take part in a two or five kilometre walk on Saturday, February 28.

As of February 27, over 75 walkers had registered for RCV's walk.

Although the organization has met its fundraising goal with over $37,000 received, donations are still being collected.

Funds raised will support the shelter and outreach services RCV provides.

The walk in Mitton Village will start and end at RCV, located at 260 Mitton St. N.

Habitat for Humanity Sarnia-Lambton is also running a Coldest Night of the Year fundraiser.

As of February 27, over 120 walkers had registered and over $58,000 had been raised, representing 78 per cent of the organization's $75,000 goal.

Money raised will support the build program.

The walk near Sarnia's waterfront will start and finish at the Polish Hall Sarnia on Exmouth Street.

Both walks will begin at 5 p.m. Registration will start at 4 p.m.

Environment Canada's forecast calls for cloudy skies with a chance of flurries Saturday evening, with temperatures expected to go down to a low of -8 C.
