A Sarnia man is one of four people charged in a homicide investigation in North Bay.
Following a missing person report on February 8, The North Bay Police Service (NBPS) launched a homicide investigation resulting in multiple arrests.
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Technical Investigation Support Unit, North East Region Regional Support Team, Emergency Response Team and K-9 Unit, as well as the Sarnia Police Service Criminal Investigation Branch assisted in the investigation.
The accused include 63-year-old Nick Montague of Sarnia. He's charged with abetting to commit first degree murder and counselling to commit indignity to a dead body.
Police said Christina Lessis, 50, and Alexander Demers, 19, both from North Bay are charged with first degree murder, indignity to a dead body, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and forcible confinement.
Lessis is also charged with uttering threats to cause bodily harm or death, extortion and two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking.
Jody Lafleur, 57, of Mattawa is charged with abetting to commit first degree murder and counselling to commit indignity to a dead body.
Investigators believe the incident was targeted and that the victim and some of the individuals involved were known to each other.
Police said the four accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing, and the investigation in ongoing.
In a news release, the NBPS said to protect the integrity of court proceedings and to respect the privacy of the family during this time of grief, no further information will be released at this time.
