Charity fundraiser 'raising the bar' for area youth

A charity weightlifting competition is raising the bar for its 25th anniversary.

'Give the Kids a Lift' in support of Pathways Health Centre for Children returns to Ironworks Health and Wellness Centre on Saturday, March 21.

Pathways CEO Alison Morrison said money raised will support programs and services at the Murphy Road site.

"Funds from this special event will support services at Pathways, filling in where gaps in funding present," said Morrison. "It will allow us to purchase specialized equipment and therapy material to support children and youth with physical, communication and developmental needs."

Since its inception, Give the Kids a Lift has helped raise over $330,000 for Pathways.

Morrison said in honour of the anniversary, she would love to see them raise $25,000 this year.

But, I have a feeling they might have their eyes set on beating last year's total of $31,000," she said.

Morrison said over 35 lifters have signed up to participate this year, and spectators are welcome to attend.

"So the lifters are largely from Ironworks or from the Iron Eagle or Titans, strength training and weightlifting programs. Anyone can pop in to cheer on, but those lifters have been raising funds for the last several weeks already," she said.

Give the Kids a Lift will be held from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
