Lambton Shores retiree wins $1M

A 65-year-old man from Lambton Shores plans to travel after winning $1 million in the Lotto 6/49 Gold Ball draw.

Mark Gatschene won big during the February 18 draw. The OLG said it was the retiree's first major win after playing the lottery for 25 years.

Gatschene said he and his wife were "over the moon" when they found out he had won.

"It feels like it can’t be real, but it is. This prize came at a great time,” he said in a media release.

After validating the ticket, the happy couple called their children to share the news.

“At first, the words didn’t come out. We were having trouble saying anything,” he said. “Finally, I said it, and my daughter screamed over the phone. She and our son were so happy!”

While collecting his winnings from the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto, Gatschene said he planned to buy a new car and upgrade his RV.

“We plan to travel to see more of Canada," he said. "We’d like to take a trip out west and maybe visit Banff.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Points Preference Supermarket on West Ipperwash Road in Kettle and Stony Point.
