A man has been arrested after allegedly weaponizing a power drill while shoplifting meat from a grocery store.
At roughly 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sarnia police responded to a grocery store on London Road after reports that a man had stolen items and fled.
According to police, the suspect was seen taking two or three roasts and attempting to hide them in a backpack.
He was confronted by staff and allegedly denied taking the roasts. Officers say the man was asked to return the roasts or pay for them. The accused instead brandished a yellow Dewalt drill.
The man allegedly turned the drill on multiple times while demanding the staff move away.
He left the store and fled on a bicycle with the meat and drill.
After reviewing surveillance videos, police identified the suspect, noting he was out on bail from a previous retail theft.
Officers searched the area and found the man behind a home on Conestoga Drive.
The 25-year-old man was arrested and charged with robbery, possession of property obtained by crime, failing to comply with a release order, and two counts of breaching his probation.
He remains in custody following his bail hearing.
