CASL celebrates Earth Month with interactive activities

April is Earth Month and Climate Action Sarnia-Lambton (CASL) is putting on a couple of special events to mark the occasion.

A panel of speakers will highlight a seminar on Thursday, April 9.

CASL spokesman Allan McKeown said a variety of important topics will be discussed.

"We have a speaker (Ed Brost) on how renewable energy is transforming economies around the world, how it's going to change our lives, how it's going to reduce carbon emissions and lead to a better future for all. So that's a very exciting presentation and very important," said McKeown.

Local farmers, Shane and Emma Rozevelt from Aslan Farms in Camlachie, will be talking about their operation and why it's important to eat local, why it's good for you and helps make things affordable and reduces carbon.

McKeown said the final speaker, Don Greaves, focuses on how to blend solar energy into farming to make it more sustainable.

"And, you know, in this time of drought and high temperatures during the summer, crops may be struggling," he said. "This is something that's taking off all around the world to make farming better, more productive and create free energy for the farmers."

That event is happening at the Lochiel Kiwanis Community Centre, at 180 College Avenue in Sarnia.

It gets underway at 7 p.m., and admission is free.

On April 18, there will be a family-friendly event at the downtown Sarnia Library.

McKeown said all ages can enjoy an afternoon of activities and interactive displays by local environmental partners offering practical climate solutions.

The fun includes seed planting, Earth Day bingo, crafts a local Bee Keeper display and presentation, a climate cafe and speakers panel.

The activities are from 2:30 p.m. until 4 p.m. followed by the speakers.

Earth Day itself is on April 22.
