A Sarnia man is facing several charges after allegedly breaking into homes in the city's north end.
Police were called to a residence in the Notre Dame Place and Lakeshore Road area at 12:40 p.m. on April 14.
A neighbour reportedly told police that he had confronted a man leaving the yard who claimed to be renting a room inside his neighbour’s house. A call to the homeowner confirmed there was no renter, and police were called.
Police searched the property where he was last seen, discovering that a screen had been removed from a basement window, and the back shed was insecure.
During a search of the area, officers were flagged down by a Sylvan Court resident, who said he had just witnessed a man climb out the back window of his neighbour’s home.
Officers found and arrested a suspect shortly after.
When police searched the man, they found a wallet and other personal items directly tied to the Sylvan Court residence, a backpack containing a large amount of cash and change, stolen valuables, other pieces of property, and key fobs for the victims' vehicles.
Officers also allegedly located what appeared to be methamphetamine, 19 g of fentanyl, and a replica handgun. An investigation into those items is ongoing.
Police said inside the home, rooms were ransacked, children’s piggy banks smashed, and human waste left in the upstairs washroom.
Security footage also showed the suspect waving at the cameras as he left the crime scene.
The 33-year-old man is facing several charges, including possession of stolen property.
Sarnia police noted that this is their 38th interaction with the accused since May, 2025.
