The final price tag for the years long delayed expansion at Maxwell Park Place came in over $15 million.
In a report from the County of Lambton's Social Services Division, the 24-unit affordable housing development project, which wrapped up in December 2025, cost $15,407,037.92.
The project started in November 2021 and was originally estimated at around $6.1 million with plans to be completed in 2022.
"The cost escalation of $9,307,037.92 was a result of site servicing issues, soil conditions, weather delays, deficiencies in workmanship of the contractor, project abandonment/contract termination with the original contractor, bonding and litigation matters and selection of an alternate contractor to finish the project," said the report.

According to the report, the original contractor has filed for bankruptcy, and the status of the county's claim to recoup costs remains undetermined.
"As previously reported to council, additional funding has been secured including funding from upper levels of government as well as funding from the bond to partially offset the cost escalations."
Tenants were finally able to move into the newly renovated space in March of this year.
The 24-unit addition includes six barrier-free apartments for March of Dimes patients with physical disabilities and 18 senior's units.
