Kids have an opportunity to do something affordable and fun this Mother's Day weekend.
Saturday and Sunday represent another first free fishing weekend in Ontario. Those wanting to take Mom fishing can do so without first buying a licence or Outdoors Card.
"Fishing is a great way for families to make unforgettable memories while enjoying the outdoors," said Mike Harris, Ontario Minister of Natural Resources. "Free fishing weekends are an opportunity to check out Ontario’s top‑notch fishing and take part in a timeless tradition that brings people together right across the province."
You're still responsible for any catch and possession limits, along with restrictions in sanctuaries and conservation areas as laid out by the provincial fishing regulations.
Anyone participating in a free fishing weekend must carry a government-issued ID with their name and date of birth.
According to the Ministry, there are 1.3-million licenced anglers in Ontario, spending about $2.4-billion a year.
Free fishing weekends in Ontario are also set for Father's Day weekend in June, and Family Fishing Week from June 27 to July 5.
