Cast and crew of Theatre Sarnia are gearing up to perform Singin' in the Rain, a stage adaptation of one of Hollywood's most iconic musicals.
"The cast is 27 people, but they're supported by more than 75 crew members, designers, department assistants, and volunteers working behind the scenes. And then we have an extra 15-piece live orchestra on stage," said Imperial Theatre and Theatre Sarnia Executive Director Brian Austin. "It's a comedy, it's musical, there are elements of romance, there are lots of big choreographed numbers, so it has something for everybody."
The show runs at the Imperial Theatre from May 22 to May 30 and showcases a wide range of performers.
"They're preteen to late 60s, so it really is a wide range of performers on stage, and they are mostly local performer. But we have a bunch of people from Chatham who've been driving down three times a week for rehearsals." said Austin. "Planning for the musical started probably about 18 months ago, but rehearsal started in February, and since then the cast and crew have been working to bring the show to life."
This show in particular has some very cool special effects built into the production.
"Something I'm very excited about is there's real rain in this production. So our incredible set designers have built in a system to make it actually rain on stage, and it's just incredible to witness in person," he said. "There's also an out-of-this-world cameo from a very famous Sarnia-born celebrity, and that's within one of the film portions of the show."
Those who would like to purchase tickets to any of the performances can do so on the Imperial Theatre's website, over the phone at 519-344-7469 or in person at box office.
