Two Sarnia men accused of assault and attempted robbery have been arrested following a standoff on Tashmoo Avenue.
Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
The victim was hit in the face with a glass object, stated a Sarnia Police Service (SPS) media release. The suspects allegedly tried to steal the victim's wallet but the person was able to get away and call for help.
Police obtained arrest warrants for three people, one of whom is a youth who cannot be identified because of their age.
On Thursday, June 4, officers returned to the Tashmoo Avenue residence shortly after 1 p.m., knowing at least one of the suspects was inside.
The suspect allegedly refused to open the door, so members of the Emergency Response Team were called while patrol officers contained the residence.
Officers later learned that the second wanted individual was inside the residence as well.
Sarnia police said a standoff continued for several hours as negotiations were unsuccessful.
Police were granted a warrant to enter the home and found the two suspects hiding in a bedroom.
A 31-year-old man, identified as Garret Gray, was arrested for assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, and attempted robbery.
Police said 33-year-old Terrance Nahmabin was arrested for assault causing bodily harm, attempted robbery, failure to comply with a probation order, and disobeying a court order.
Both men were recently featured on the SPS' Wanted Wednesday page, as stated in the media release.
The accused were remanded into custody following bail hearings on Friday, June 5, with court appearances scheduled in the coming days. Charges against the two have not been tested in court.
Sarnia police said the young offender remains at large.
