UPDATE: Sarnia Sting buzzing with new talent at OHL Draft

The Sarnia Sting have added 14 players to the organization in the 2026 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection, held this weekend in Kingston.

On Friday night they added some punch on defence with the selection of Adrian Sgro fourth overall.

The 16-year-old Alliston native was the captain of the Vaughan Kings U16 AAA team in 2025-26. He scored 10 goals and added 21 assists in 33 games played, and also racked up 100 penalty minutes.

Sgro stands at six feet tall and 185 pounds and is a left handed shot.

OHL Central Scouting described him as "one of, if not the best skater in this age group," noting that "he makes the game look very easy and effortless" and possesses "unbelievable composure with the puck under pressure."

"He checks all the boxes for us,” noted General Manager Dylan Seca in an interview after the selection. Sgro’s personality and skill set are a natural fit for the Sarnia Sting. “That’s the guy we wanted. It’s really great to see how it all worked out.”

Sgro was a prominent player in the 2026 OHL Cup, leading his team through the round-robin games.

Former Sting Scout Kyle Craner's father Randy announced the Sting's pick live on FloHockey.

He was joined on stage by Kyle's brother Joel, and Sting 2025 first round draft pick Brenner Lammens.

Kyle passed away due to brain cancer in September 2025.

On Saturday, the Sting opened their day by selecting forward Evan Bannister in the second round, 30th overall.

Bannister also wore the "C" in 2025-26, playing for the Credit River Capitals U16 AAA team. The Georgetown, Ontario native put up 38 goals and 26 assists across 33 games.

Seca said, “Evan is a player we couldn’t believe was at that spot. His character, competitiveness, skill and leadership are impressive. Just an overall awesome player. Looks like the type who should be a fan favourite, someone who plays in key situations. I see him scoring an overtime goal and winning a big game for us. He has that knack to help his team win.”

The Sting selected Brody Brown in the third round, 43rd overall.

The Wheatley, Ontario born Brown was a teammate of Sgro's on the Vaughan Kings. He's a playmaker, having scored seven goals and adding 28 assists in 33 games played in 2025-26.

Defenceman Wyatt Finch from the Huron-Perth Lakers U16 AAA team was the Sting's fifth round selection, 100th overall.

This past season, the Arva-born Finch had a goal and 21 points in 30 games played. He also suited up for six regular season games for the GOHL's London Nationals where he had a goal and an assist.

Sarnia went with a goaltender in round six, taking Chase Pastor from the Woodbridge Wolfpack 15U AAA team based out of New Jersey.

He played to a record of 28-4 with a .891 save percentage and 1.50 goals against average.

Seca called Pastor a really interesting prospect.

"We had him in our top three list of goalies overall, regardless of where he’s from," said Seca. "He’s a really gritty goalie, good size and has the jam in a goalie you love to watch. We believe he has the capabilities to be a starting goalie. It will be dependent on when he’s ready and how soon he will be here.”

The Sting elected for another defenceman in round seven with the selection of Charles Mineman from the St. Louis Blues AAA 16U team. Mineman also played three games for Tri City of the USHL in 2025-26.

A familiar last name was chosen in the eighth round. Caiven Walos was the first of back to back picks, followed by defenceman Theo Gravelle.

Caiven is the younger brother of Sting forward Easton Walos.

Caiven Walos, from Hartland, WI, scored 40 goals and added 59 assists in 61 games for the Madison Capitols 15U AAA team.

Gravelle was raised in Navan, Ontario. He suited up for the Eastern Ontario Wild U16 AAA team this past season and had two goals and 11 assists in 19 games played.

The Sting's 13th round choice, Noah Crombeen, is the son of former NHLer BJ Crombeen who grew up in Brights Grove.

Other notable selections at the draft included Sarnia-born Cameron Jolicoeur (Windsor, 7th round) and John Montanino (Brampton, 5th round).

Jolicoeur played for the London Jr. Knights while Montanino was on the Detroit Little Caesars 15's team.

The lone Lambton Jr. Sting player chosen was Liam Klubertanz from Grand Bend (London, 12th round).
