A record amount of cereal was collected in the Inn of the Good Shepherd's fifth annual Cereal Dom-INN-Os challenge.
A total of 11 local schools and nine organizations participated in the challenge, collecting 5,078 boxes of cereal for the Inn's food bank, nearly doubling last year's total of 2,700.
In a news release, the Inn said the students in the Northern Collegiate Key Club went above and beyond, collecting 500 boxes of cereal, averaging about 10 boxes per student.
“We opened this year’s event up to organizations beyond elementary schools for the first time and it was incredible to see how many new teams wanted to get in on the action,” said Program Manager Adrienne McPhee. “I was especially impressed with the Northern Collegiate Key Club team and how the youth leaders rallied their peers to donate.”
The team from Northern was announced as this year's recipient of the Breakfast of Champions Trophy.
McPhee said she is always blown away at the community spirit in Sarnia-Lambton, but never surprised.
“Our food bank is going to be fully stocked with cereal for the rest of the year and thousands of local families are going to directly benefit from the community’s amazing efforts," she said in the release.
The inn said this year also featured several unique Dom-Inn-O courses, including down stairs and using pulleys and toy cars.
There was also a friendly competition between Bridgeview Public School and Point Edward Fire and Rescue.
