Lambton Public Health (LPH) has issued an extended heat warning for Lambton County.
LPH reminds residents that it's important to stay hydrated.
"Drinking plenty of cool fluids throughout the day, especially water; trying to reschedule or plan your activities, like during cooler parts of the day, so early in the morning or in the evening; wearing loose-fitting, light-colored clothing that's made of breathable fabrics, and then taking frequent breaks in cool spaces. Some people can go to libraries or malls to get a break from the hot weather," said LPH Supervisor of Health Protection Carshenan Lai.
You're also reminded that if you're warm, so are your pets.
"Many of the same principles do apply to pets, so ensuring that they have access to lots of water, shade, a cool environment, and maybe keeping them in an air-conditioned home during the day when it's really hot outside, and not leaving them in non-cooled vehicles," Lai said.
The warning comes as Environment and Climate Change Canada also have an orange level heat warning out for the area, and the high temperatures are expected to stay through Canada Day.
"If people want to take part in Canada Day, we know it's a really exciting time. So, using shade umbrellas is a good idea. A lot of people can use those portable fans, taking a dip in the lake or going to a splash pad, and then really listening to your body. So, if you're feeling unwell, then step out of that heat and cool down and drink lots of water," Lai said.
A list of places to cool down can be found on the LPH website.
