Sarnia has a new millionaire!
After 45 weeks, the Ace of Spades was finally caught in the Sarnia Legion Branch 62's Catch the Ace fundraiser.
Ashley Norton was the lucky winner taking home the grand prize of just over $4,511,971.50, which included the weekly prize of $210,266 on top of the $4.3 million progressive jackpot.
His ticket was pulled from the $210,266 worth of tickets sold on Thursday.
Norton, who works at Imperial Sarnia, selected envelope 31 to unveil the Ace of Spades.
In a post to its Facebook Page, the Sarnia Legion said his first purchase was a round of drinks for the entire bar after receiving his massive cheque with his wife and children by his side.
Money raised from the lottery will benefit local charities and community groups, while helping fund further improvements to the Front Street Legion.
The weekly fundraiser grew to a community event every Thursday with thousands lining up around the Legion to get their tickets, some as early as 5 a.m.
Food and donation drives were added over the last several weeks, collecting goods for local organizations such as the Salvation Army, the Inn of the Good Shepherd, BGC Sarnia-Lambton, Sarnia-Lambton Rebound and the Sarnia and District Humane Society.
Past President Les Jones told the crowd gathered at the Legion that they will be launching another Catch the Ace fundraiser in the near future.
