Those who drive on or under the Lord Selkirk Bridge in Wallaceburg will have to take a detour for the foreseeable future.
The crossing has been closed to vehicles by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent out of an abundance of safety.
According to the municipality, a mechanical issue means that the bridge isn't able to open for marine traffic that requires it.
Pedestrians will still be able to cross. Motorists will have to take another route.
The posted detour has drivers using Base Line Road, Old Glass Road, Mason Street, and Arnold Street, instead of the bridge.
At this time, the municipality doesn't have a timeline for repairs and hasn't determined when the bridge will reopen.
