The Sarnia Sting (23-36-4) has been eliminated from playoff contention, after a 6-3 loss to the visiting Mississauga Steelheads (35-21-8) Wednesday night.
Sarnia climbed out to a 2-0 lead in the first period, before Mississauga responded with four straight goals, pulling ahead for good and handing the Sting their sixth straight loss.
Zach Filak scored twice for Sarnia in the loss, giving him 22 goals on the season. Cooper Way also scored for the Sting and goalie Karsen Chartier made 25 saves in net.
Head Coach Alan Letang said the young team still has a lot to learn, but there are positives to take away.
"Tyson Doucette has got 22 goals and he had four last year, Ryan Brown has 10 goals, Carson (Hall) has 10 goals, like there's a lot of bright spots, there's a lot of little silver linings that we have to grab and take hold of," said Letang.
He said they just don't have enough depth right now.
"We have to play 60 minutes, hard, competitive hockey, the full 60, and we're not ready to do that yet and that's what you see out there," said Letang. "We show pockets, we show really good pockets in every game, but we just don't have enough to sustain it."
The Sting are home to the Flint Firebirds on Friday.
