Canada's first-ever medal in women's beach volleyball is silver

They pushed the Brazilian team to the limit, but Brandie Wilkerson and Melissa Humana-Paredes had to settle for a silver medal at the Paris Olympics.

The duo's second-place finish is the best ever for Canada in beach volleyball. It is also the first medal earned on the women's side.

Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson faced Ana Patricia Ramos and Duda Lisboa of Brazil, who went undefeated in the competition.

The Brazilians won the first set 26-24. The Canadians rallied back to win the second set 21-12, forcing the first third set in a gold medal game in Olympic history. Duda and Lisboa took the tiebreaker 15-10.

In another first, the Canadian team is the only one in Olympic history to win the "lucky loser" match at the end of round-robin play and make it all the way to the final.

Switzerland's Tanja Hueberli and Nina Brunner won bronze after defeating Mariafe Artacho del Solar and Taliqua Clancy of Australia.

Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson's medal was the 24th for Canada in the 2024 games, matching the national record at a non-boycotted Olympics.
