The Sarnia Sting gave up three shorthanded goals as they fell 6-1 to the Saginaw Spirit Tuesday night in OHL playoff action at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.
The win gives the Spirit a commanding 3-0 advantage in the first round series. Sarnia has been outscored 17-5 in those contests.
Saginaw scored twice in the first to jump out to a 2-0 lead before Justin McCombs scored his first career playoff goal to pull the Sting to within one.
The Spirit scored another goal in the second and three more in the third to seal the 6-1 victory.
Justin Murray, Camaryn Baber, and Brady Gilmour each had two points to lead the way for Saginaw.
Sting goalie Ethan Langevin made 20 saves on 24 shots faced before giving way to Cameron Lamour who turned aside five of seven shots.
Ivan Prosvetov stopped 34 of 35 shots in the Spirit net.
The Sting are now in a must-win situation on Thursday night as the two teams square off again in Sarnia.
