The multi-use trail at Dieppe Gardens is well used by local cyclists, but it doesn't draw too many cyclists from out of town.
A study done between August and September of 2016 finds the total number of cyclists during the six-week period is just over 44,000. The average per week is 7,300, with the busiest day being Sunday. That's an average of around 1,000 cyclists per day.
Interviews were also conducted as part of the research to study the impact of cycle tourism in Ontario. Out of 83 cyclists surveyed, 78 were local and were on the multi-use trail for a day trip. The rest visitors from greater than 40 km away.
Cyclists from locations greater than 100 km were staying three to four-plus nights.
Visitors were mainly from Toronto, Hamilton and Kitchener. There were no cyclists from the United States.
The study also finds the Chrysler Greenway in Kingsville had an average of about 860 cyclists per week, and an estimated 3,000 cyclists visited Point Pelee National Park in 2016.
