Proponents Given Extension On Bridge Design

The Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority has extended the deadline for the request for proposals on the Gordie Howe International Bridge.

Last week, the authority announced it was reviewing the timeline but insisted the private-public partner would still be selected in early 2018 with construction starting the same year.

With the extension, the proponents' proposals will not be due until May 2018. That means the procurement process will not be complete until September 2018.

The WDBA says the preferred proponent will be identified before that and will be able to begin preliminary construction activities and site works.

The RFP was delivered in November 2016, months behind schedule. At that time they said it would take 18 months to pick a successful proponent.
