If your home flooded in the last few years, the Canadian Red Cross will come knocking at your door.
Volunteers with the agency will be visiting homes in Windsor and Essex County to help residents mitigate the risk of flooding in the future, and how to prepare for flood-related emergencies. They'll go door-to-door between March 30 and April 17.
A release from the Town of Lakeshore said the Canadian Red Cross has been a leader in emergency preparedness for many years and has educated thousands of Canadians on how to be prepared. It is working with the Intact Centre on Climate Adaptation and the University of Waterloo on a new Disaster Risk Reduction program.
The region has been selected for the national pilot program.
In Lakeshore, the town offers flood-mitigation programs including free camera inspection of private drain connections, subsidies for sump pump overflow outlet valves and downspout disconnections.
In Windsor, the city also offers subsidies for sump pump outlet valves.
