Safety and crime throughout the City of Windsor are top of mind for many candidates on the campaign trail, including Ward 7 candidate Angelo Marignani.
He has many ideas to improve safety in the Forest Glade area and throughout the city. If elected, Marignani says he'll introduce a motion to establish a satellite police station at the Forest Glade Community Centre as a pilot project for improved community policing initiatives.
"It would give a face to the police in a non-confrontational way where people would engage the police that are in that community centre," said Marignani. "It would basically deter crime in an area of concern."
To address road safety and reduce speeding, Marignani would like the city to purchase a portable photo radar system. The system would capture speeders wherever it's deployed, and speeding tickets would be mailed to their homes.
"This radar system is currently being used around the world and is dramatically showing a reduction in speeding, accidents, and most importantly deaths," said Marignani.
He says the speeding fines could also be used as a source of revenue for the city to implement other safety measures on city streets.
Also running in the Ward 7 race are Sydney Brouillard-Coyle, incumbent Jeewen Gill, Greg Lemay, and Sophia Sevo.
The municipal election is on October 24, 2022.
