Pediatric Urgent Medical Assessment Clinic closing

Now that more doctors' offices are open for in-person appointments, Windsor Regional Hospital is shutting down its Pediatric Urgent Medical Assessment Clinic.

The last day is Friday.

"We will continue to closely monitor the needs of our community, and perhaps in the future even revisit the option of establishing a permanent outpatient paediatric rapid assessment clinic," said Chief of Pediatrics Doctor Sajit Augustine.

The clinic, which opened in August 2021, treated patients under 18 suffering from COVID-19 symptoms. It operated during some of the busiest times during the pandemic, reducing wait times in the Emergency Department by diverting several dozen young patients daily.

Over the past 14 months, it's offered more than 10,000 patients access to testing, medical assessments, and sometimes COVID-19 vaccines.

The clinic was originally located in a trailer at the east end of the hospital. Last April, it was relocated inside next to the Emergency Department.

Recently, staff have seen five patients a day or less.
