Transit Union files complaint over tunnel bus decision

The union representing Transit Windsor employees is filing unfair labour practice charges against Transit Windsor and the City of Windsor.

Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 616 said it made many concessions in the latest round of bargaining to offset the costs of the 10 federally mandated sick days needed to run the tunnel bus.

Now that Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens vetoed city council's vote to keep the service, those 10 days will be eliminated.

“We came to the bargaining table to secure a fair and reasonable contract for our members, and we fought to make sure that ridership and the public did not have any service interruptions. After months of hard negotiations, and with many cuts, we believed we had done just that. We had a deal, and to go backwards now is not only an insult, but is unacceptable” said ATU Local 616 President Dragan Markovic.

A formal complaint has been made to the Canada Industrial Relations Board.

The union is urging the city council to stand by the collective agreement that was negotiated last year.
