Downtown Windsor Farmers' Market returns on Saturday

Organizers of the Downtown Windsor Farmers' Market say the market will return this Saturday with a record number of vendors.

Forty new vendors will join old favourites on the roster when the market opens for the season on Pelissier Street.

The market is now running at 99 per cent capacity with 70 vendors.

The market is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday until the end of October.

The market was recently named the 2024 Farmers' Market of the Year by Farmers' Markets Ontario with its diverse mix of vendors, lively atmosphere, and programming like Good Greens, which collects unsold food for area food banks.

"Good Greens is one of the most meaningful ways we extend the Downtown Windsor Farmers' Market's impact beyond Saturday mornings," said Downtown Windsor Business Improvement Association Executive Director Debi Croucher.

Good Greens launched in October 2023 and has reclaimed over 12,000 lbs of fresh produce, over 3,300 baked goods, and 15,000 millilitres of preserves. That's helped serve 16,336 meals to those facing food insecurity.

"Being named Farmers' Market of the Year is an incredible honour," said Chair of the DWBIA Chris MacLeod. "It's a reflection of the passion, creativity, and commitment of our vendors, volunteers, and staff. The market is a celebration of everything that makes downtown Windsor so vibrant, and this season will be our most exciting yet."
