Applications for Project Greenlight now open

Downtown businesses can now apply for security equipment through Project Greenlight.

Approved applications will receive funding for the purchase and installation of security cameras and lighting through Security ONE Alarm Systems Ltd (Security ONE).

Business owners will be responsible for the service agreement and will be the sole owners of the footage.

"The data is owned by the business owners but it lets the public know that they are safe because there is someone monitoring those cameras, someone watching, and of course if something happens, police have access to that data if the owner of the data allows police to have it," said Mayor Drew Dilkens.

The City of Windsor has committed $450,000 for the project which will support around 90 downtown businesses.

"Just over the past two weeks I've probably had 15 calls from businesses downtown that are excited to get on board with this," said Ward 3 Councillor Renaldo Agostino.

Once applications are approved by the city, it will take two to three weeks to have the cameras installed.

"You're getting professional level security on this," said Corey Robertson, sales manager for Security One Alarm Systems . "You're going to get night vision, and you're going to get that clarity throughout the evening, night and day so that you've got the ability to recognize the person who is of interest to you."

The cameras will also have live monitoring, two-way audio, and geofencing technology.

Online applications can be found here.
