A new collaborative multi-agency fire training program is coming to the region.
Rather than travelling out of the region for essential training, the Regional Training Centre model allows local firefighters to complete their required certifications locally, sharing resources and improving operational efficiency.
Windsor Fire and Rescue Services will work with fire services in LaSalle, Tecumseh, Amherstburg, Lakeshore, Essex, Kingsville and Leamington to strengthen regional training capacity and cut costs.
"The Regional Training Centre initiative is more than a training model," said Windsor Fire Chief Jamie Waffle. "It is an investment in our people, our partners, and the communities we serve. By delivering training locally, we are removing long-standing barriers and strengthening how we operate together as a region."
Beyond saving money, the initiative will ensure regional coordination and mutual aid response by ensuring firefighters across the region train together, improving consistency and operational readiness.
The initiative is supported by the Ontario Fire Marshal's office.
