Two men are facing 11 charges of bank-related fraud after incidents were reported within one hour of each other on Monday.
Windsor police officers were first called to a bank on Tecumseh Road East near Central Avenue at around 10 a.m., for a suspected fraud in progress.
It was revealed that the suspect tried to open an account using fraudulent identification documents, including a passport and a permanent resident (PR) card. When alert employees identified the documents as fake, the suspect left.
He was arrested after a short chase.
The 35-year-old man is charged with fraud under $5,000, uttering a forged document, possession of someone else's identity documents, uttering a forged passport, possession of a forged passport, and failure to comply with a release order.
About an hour later, police learned about a similar fraud attempt at a bank on Dougall Avenue near Cabana Road. A suspect tried to open an account with a phony passport. He was arrested at the scene, with the fake passport and two fake PR cards seized.
The 26-year-old is charged with fraud under $5,000, uttering a forged document, possession of someone else's identity documents, uttering a forged passport, and causing a person to act on a forged passport.
The charges have not been proven in court.
