Spitfires win offensive shootout against Sault Ste. Marie

Offence seemed to be the only thing on the mind for both the Windsor Spitfires and Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.

The two teams faced off in Sault. Ste. Marie on Sunday with the Spitfires winning 10-6.

The first period saw one goal from each team. Jordan Charron opened the scoring for Sault Ste. Marie with Ryan Abraham tying the game for Windsor with his 12th goal of the season.

Sault Ste. Marie regained the lead halfway through the second period when Travis Hayes found the back of the net.

However, the Spitfires would leave the period with a three-goal lead. Jean-Christoph Lemieux, 6th goal; Davis, 13th goal; Noah Morneau, 12th goal, and Liam Greentree, 23rd goal, each found the back of the net in a roughly four-minute span.

The third period saw nine goals.

Jack Nesbitt gave Windsor a four-goal lead with his 14th goal of the season.

Justin Cloutier got one back for Sault Ste. Marie before Ilya Protas restored the Spitfires’ four goal lead.

Sault Ste. Marie nearly came back as they rallied off three straight goals from Marco Mignosa, Hunter Solomon, and Owen Allard.

Greentree would get his second of the game before Davis scored two more of his own for a hattrick, capping off the scoring.

With the win, Windsor improves its record to 25-7-2-1, while Sault Ste. Marie moves to 15-20-0-0.

The Spitfires' next game is on Tuesday, December 31, at home against the Flint Firebirds.
