OFA Concerned About Pension Plan

The Ontario Federation of Agriculture has some concerns about the proposed Ontario Retirement Pension Plan.

Executive Member Mark Reusser would like the province to conduct and divulge an economic analysis of the proposed plan to fully assess it's costs and benefits from an economic and social perspective.

Reusser points out that additional cost will likely be deducted from farm net income because it can't be added into prices for farm products.

He says the OFA is also recommending farmers be able to draw funds from their own private pension savings to invest in farmland and farm capital.

Reusser says the OFA estimates the plan will cost Ontario farmers, as employers, about 30 million dollars a year.
