Special Event Marks 100th Waterloo County 4-H Anniversary

Waterloo County 4-H is joining with 4-H Ontario in celebrating it's 100th anniversary this year.

They've got a special event coming up later this month to mark the occasion .

It will include historical displays, a barbecue dinner and a country barndance.

Spokesperson Sharon Grose says the displays will include interviews done with former 4-H members and leaders talking about their experiences.

She says those interviews also show how some of what is learned in 4-H clubs can be used outside the clubs - things like leaderships skills, public speaking and how to run a meeting.

Grose believes 4-H continues to thrive because of those skills and the other opportunities it offers to young people - whether they're from a farm or an urban area.

The Waterloo County 4-H 100th anniversary event is being held on June 20th at Steckle Heritage Homestead in Kitchener.

Tickets and information are available by calling 519-648-3453 or 846-9788 or on the website - www.waterloo4-h.ca.

Grose says interviews done for the event underscored the importance of some of the things club members continue to learn - such as public speaking and parliamentary procedures.
