NFU-O Says Integrated Pest Management Programs Need Government Support

The National Farmers Union Ontario says it welcomes the province's new neonic treated seed regulations.

NFU-O member Nathan Carey says the regulations reflect the need for precaution when it comes to protecting pollinators.

The regulations include training for farmers on management techniques like Integrated Pest Management.

The NFU-O says farmers will also need support to help them assess pest pressure and identify solutions where neonicotinoids are an appropriate response.

However, the farm group emphasizes those programs need to be properly funded and well-staffed to ensure farmers have the tools they need to adopt new methods.
