The Chair of Dairy Farmers of Ontario doesn't see a delay in implementing the new national dairy strategy as a major concern.
Ralph Dietrich says the Canadian Dairy Commission is just doing its due diligence in asking for the implementation to be bumped from September 1st to November 1st.
He points out the new strategy is designed to be a long-term thing, so a short delay getting it started to make sure it's done right should not be a problem.
According to Dietrich, the new strategy will give Canadian processors a Canadian product that's competitive with imports on pricing.
He says it will then be up to the processors to decide whether to use Canadian skim milk powder or imported proteins, without having price as a determining factor.
Dietrich argues dairy producers need to work with processors to maximize product and marketing opportunities out there.
