Wildlife Compensation Program Revamped

The federal and provincial governments have teamed up to make it easier for farmers to get compensation for livestock losses due to wildlife.

They say the revamped Ontario Wildlife Damage Compensation Program is more consistent, timely and transparent than it was before.

The new single-stage appeal process has been designed to be clearer and quicker for farmers needing assistance.

Federal Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Lawrence MacAulay says the changes will help producers to manage losses caused by predatory wildlife.

Jeff Leal, provincial Minister of Agriculture, acknowledges what a serious threat wildlife is to livestock farmers.

He says that's why the governments have reviewed and updated the Wildlife Damage Compensation Program.
