The Parliamentary secretary to the Minister of International Trade discussed the latest trade deal with the European Union during a meeting in Goderich.
MP David Lametti assured residents nothing in the CETA deal undermines supply management. He says limited access to Canadian Markets has been allowed.
Lamettti says transition programs are being implemented to compensate affected farmers starting with dairy.
He says a $350 million program will offset the impact of CETA and other transitional arrangements will be set up to help producers overcome non-tariff barriers such as standards for meat processing in beef and pork.
He says the Free trade deal with Europe could be a boon for Canadian food exports.
The CETA deal, which is now before Parliament, could be in force within six months.
