Laser Soil Analysis Aims To Save Farmers On Fertilizer

Laser-based soil analysis technology is heating up, thanks to some federal funding.

A repayable contribution of $470,000 is going to Logiag Inc.

The money will allow the Quebec-based company to introduce laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy to the market.

Logiag feels the technology will lead to faster and more accurate soil analysis, for a lower cost.

President and CEO Charles Nault says the support was crucial for the company to establish and demonstrate its technology.

He adds organizations such as Bayer, SGS, and others have already shown interest.

The company also says the goal of the laser technology is to provide farmers with the exact amount of fertilizer needed for their fields to reduce the amount used, saving both money and the environment.
