Parents Want New Resident Out

A group of concerned parents and community members are pushing for a convicted pedophile residing in Chatham to find another place to live.

Floyd Porter, who organized a protest on Wednesday outside of a Taylor Ave. apartment complex, says Timothy Wheaton was found guilty of sex-related acts involving children in Fredericton.

Porter adds they not only want Wheaton to leave, they want to promote legislative change. "We want him out of Chatham-Kent, we don't want another child in danger," says Porter.  "We want to put more authority in the hands of police departments to regulate these people, monitor these people, and keep them in check and in line."

Chatham-Kent Police Service Constable Renee Cowell says public safety is their number one priority. "As far as we are concerned, there is no risk to public safety at this time, nor has there been," Cowell explained in a brief phone interview.

New Brunswick Courts confirmed to BlackburnNews.com that Wheaton was convicted in 2012 of several sex-related offences involving children.
