Lakeshore's mayor has no regrets about how the town dealt with CEN Biotech as it tried to seek approvals to grow medical marijuana.
Tom Bain says everyone involved knew it was a "risky" operation from the beginning. "We just handled it as we had to according to all of our bylaws and regulations," says Bain. "I think there is no regrets ... on our end of it. We did everything as we had to and dealt with everything properly."
Bain says the town must now wait and see what the company does with its site on Manning Rd. "I think it's disappointing that something couldn't have been worked out," says Bain.
Health Canada issued a final rejection notice last week.
There's still an open federal court case where CEN Biotech alleges Health Canada was "unlawful or unreasonable" in denying the license.
There is also a case before the Ontario Municipal Board over whether CEN Biotech should be on industrial or agricultural land.
