Wynne Meets With Southwestern Ontario Mayors

Premier Kathleen Wynne says the mayors of southwestern Ontario need to speak up and make it known what infrastructure projects need to be tackled.

The government has allocated $15-billion for infrastructure projects outside of the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area and Wynne notes it has yet to all be allocated.

"We very much need them to take part in the consultation so we know what the needs are and what the possibilities are," notes Wynne.

Wynne and the mayors met in London on Wednesday, before she headed to Sarnia. While taking questions from the London media, she stood by the decision to sell off a 60% stake in Hydro One.

"This needs to be a better run company and we need to make investments in infrastructure," says the premier. "We have made a committment to make investment in infrastructure and assetts that are going to serve the people of Ontario into the future. We have some assetts that have served us very well, and we said that we needed to review those to invest in the assetts that will serve us in the 21st century."

Hydro One brings in about $300-million each year for the government.

It is expected the sell-off will generate about $4-billion for infrastructure funding.

Wynne toured Big Blue Bubble on Dundas St. in London ahead of the mayors' meeting.

The premier is in Sarnia on Thursday.
