High levels of air pollution are possible this afternoon.

An AIR QUALITY WARNING is in place due to the possibility of deteriorating air quality. Hot and sunny conditions are expected to cause increasing ground-level ozone concentrations this afternoon. Moderate risk AQHI values are expected throughout the day with the potential of short-term high risk AQHI values in the afternoon.

When air pollution levels are high, everyone should limit time outdoors. Consider reducing or rescheduling outdoor sports, activities and events.

You may experience mild and common symptoms such as eye, nose and throat irritation, headaches or a mild cough. More serious but less common symptoms include wheezing, chest pains or severe cough. If you think you are having a medical emergency, seek immediate medical assistance.

People more likely to be impacted by outdoor air pollution, including people aged 65 and older, pregnant people, infants and young children, people with an existing illness or chronic health condition, and people who work outdoors, should reduce or reschedule strenuous activities outdoors and seek medical attention if experiencing symptoms.

<p>Sydenham District Hospital won't be forced to merge with the two surrounding hospital boards, according to the ministry.
 
A voluntary merger took place last month between the Public General Hospital of Chatham and St. Joseph's Health Services Association. The move is meant to be more effective.
 
Sydenham chose not to merge.
 
The Ministry of Health tells BlackburnNews.com in an email, Syndenham, if it chooses , would remain an independent entity with its own board overseeing governance and operations of the hospital.
 
Ministry officials say "there are no legal barriers for a Minister's approval of the amalgamation ..."
 
The ministry says it will take a minimum three months for the two-hospital merger to take place. An integration review and a ministry review must both happen before an official decision is made.</p>
