Spreading Awareness About The Importance Of Farms

Two Chatham-Kent teens are set to represent the area as ambassadors for agriculture as the Queen and the Princess of the Furrow.

Dresden's Emma Richards, who recently graduated from Ursuline College Chatham, was crowned queen at the Chatham-Kent plowing match on Saturday and will begin a two-year reign leading up to the International Plowing Match (IPM) in 2018.

At the same time, 14-year-old Brynn Depencier, who is also from Dresden, was crowned princess.

Depencier says she'll be attending several events over the next year, representing Chatham-Kent and promoting the 2018 IPM.

"I'll be teaching young children about agriculture so that they're more aware of what it is, and how lucky we are to be living in this type of community," says Depencier. "This was something that I probably wouldn't ever have done, but I just gave it a shot and it was actually a really great experience."

Depencier and Richards will now represent Chatham-Kent at the 2017 International Plowing Match in Huron where they will compete to become the Ontario Queen/Princess of the Furrow.
