Almost 600K Donated To CK United Way

Union Gas employees are coming through in a big way for the United Way of Chatham-Kent's annual campaign.

Members of Union Gas stood in a line at their Chatham location on Wednesday to reveal the grand total of this year's contribution. During their 2016 fundraising campaign they raised $591,125 for the organization.

Director of Resource Development with United Way Tom Slager says this is the largest donation the organization has received this year.

"Every year Union Gas comes through for us big time," says Slager. "We're always super appreciative of all the work they put in."

Slager says the money donated will be divided up among several of their programs.

"We actually fund over 34 different programs in Chatham-Kent," says Slager. "It's going to help over 35,000 people over the course of the next year."

Overall, Union Gas has donated $978,078 to United Ways across Ontario.

To be able to make these donations, Union Gas has held several fundraisers throughout the year. Once their fundraisers are totaled their parent company, Spectra Energy matches the donation.

"It's great every year to see the engagement of our employees," says Union Gas President Steve Baker. "We know that the dollars will be spent giving back to the community."
