Discussion Continues For Future Of Chatham's Catholic Schools

The Pupil Accommodation Review process for Chatham's Catholic elementary schools will soon be wrapping up.

The second public meeting to discuss the school's futures was held at St. Ursula Catholic School Wednesday night.

Superintendent of Education Deb Crawford is the acting chair of the Pupil Accommodation Review Committee (PARC). She says there's been a lot of collaboration between the committee, the schools, and parent advisory committees during this process.

"We're getting a variety of feedback," says Crawford. "There's concerns about transitions from small school to a larger school -- if that was to be decided upon."

Overall, Crawford says it's a very exciting prospect for the parents.

The preferred option PARC is proposing remains to be "Option A", which involves closing six schools and building two new English program schools.

Crawford says another PARC meeting will be held, and feedback from these public meetings will be discussed.

A final report will be sent to the Board of Trustees February 14. It will then be brought to the regular board meeting on March 28.

Director of Education Dan Parr says following the board's decision in March, the final decision regarding Chatham's Catholic elementary schools will be in the hands of the Ministry of Education.
