Modifications made with the 9-1-1 system are proving to be beneficial in making Chatham-Kent a safer community.
The Crime Prevention Board held a meeting Saturday, at Chatham Parks and Recreation to go over updates and engage with locals.
President of the Crime Prevention and Safety Board Brian French says they went over several topics such as online reporting, trends, and calling systems.
"We talked extensively about how the 9-1-1 system is adapting to the needs of the deaf, hard of hearing, and speech impaired community," says French. "Which is really important [because] they have to be able to call for help as well."
French adds they're noticing more people at these meetings which is very encouraging.
"Crime prevention is not the exclusive domain of the police," he says. "It's the police who are the boots on the ground that are the one's laying the charges, but ultimately it's the larger community that's the eyes and the ears of the police service."
