A recall of Robin Hood All Purpose Flour that stemmed from concerns over possible E. coli contamination has been expanded across the country.
Initially, the March 28 recall only covered Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia. However, it now covers all of Canada. The recalled flour was sold in 10 kg bads with an expiry date of April 17, 2018. Bags with the production code 6 291 548 are being recalled.
So far, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency has reported illness associated with the flour.
A statement on the CFIA's website says, "Food contaminated with E. coli O121 may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, mild to severe abdominal cramps and watery to bloody diarrhea. In severe cases of illness, some people may have seizures or strokes, need blood transfusions and kidney dialysis or live with permanent kidney damage. In severe cases of illness, people may die."
Anyone who had a bag of the flour affected by the recall is advised to throw it out or return to the store where it was purchased.
