Chatham-Kent police have identified the victims of a fatal crash near Kent Bridge Tuesday afternoon.
Officers have not released their names, but say a 62-year-old woman and a 63-year-old woman from Kent Bridge were both killed in the collision.
Police say the vehicle the women were in was heading north on Kent Bridge Rd. when it was hit first by another vehicle that was heading east on River Line, and then again by a transport truck that was heading south on Kent Bridge Rd. Investigators say the initial impact from the first crash caused the vehicle that the women were in to slide into the path of the oncoming transport truck.
Officers say a 20-year-old Bothwell woman was driving the vehicle that was heading east on River Line. The initial report from police says her vehicle stopped at Kent Bridge Rd. to wait for a farm tractor before proceeding into the intersection where the first crash took place.
A 53-year-old Seaforth man was driving the transport truck that was involved in the collision. The Bothwell woman and the Seaforth man were both evaluated by medical staff, but didn't suffer any serious injuries.
Police say Kent Bridge Rd. reopened just before noon Wednesday.
Officers are still looking to speak to any witnesses as the investigation continues. At this point, there is no word on possible charges.
