The governor of Texas says 26 people are dead and about 30 injured in a shooting at a church.
It happened around 11:30am Central standard time in the town of Sutherland Springs, in Wilson County about 20 miles east of San Antonio. Multiple news reports say a lone gunman entered the First Baptist Church during Sunday worship services and began firing.
Police tell San Antonio TV station KSAT that the gunman had fled the scene and led officers on a car chase into adjoining Guadalupe County, and they have confirmed the suspect has been killed. It is not clear if he was killed by police or if he shot himself.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has confirmed the death toll at 26. The victims range in age from five to 72.
This is the worst mass shooting in Texas history, since 23 people were killed in a 1991 rampage at a Luby's Cafeteria in Killeen.
The FBI is on scene to assist local law enforcement, according to the BBC.
