The results are in and it looks like Tecumseh Public School in Chatham will be keeping its name -- again.
After gathering feedback from the public, the committee that's in charge of making a recommendation to the Lambton-Kent District School Board (LDKSB) is suggesting that the building keep its current name -- even after students from John N. Given Public School move over there in 2018.
The committee says it is making the suggestion for three main reasons:
1) Tecumseh is the name of the previous high school -- as well as one of the two elementary schools on the consolidated site (along with John N. Given Public School)
2) Tecumseh is recognized for making a significant contribution to society in the district, the province and the country and a monument is dedicated to him in Chatham-Kent
3) Tecumseh is also used to identify a local park and a historical parkway along the Thames River
The recommendation still needs approval from the LKDSB, which is expected to take place at a board meeting in Chatham Tuesday night.
LKDSB Superintendent of Education Gary Girardi previously told Blackburn News that it could still be possible to name a portion of the school after John N. Given.
